Over 30 million children and youth worldwide lack access to continuous, quality education due to disruptions caused by crisis and displacement. To address this challenge, UNICEF, Microsoft, and the University of Cambridge developed the Learning Passport, a digital, personalized learning platform that provides children and young people with access to high quality, flexible education and learning offline and online.
Microsoft is enabling the Learning Passport through Community Training, helping to ensure children can access local, contextualized content (such as a national curriculum) and supplementary content (such as digital skills). When the global pandemic hit and schools were closed worldwide, the Learning Passport underwent rapid expansion to facilitate online learning, pivoting to meet this critical need. Initially deployed in Kosovo, Timor-Leste, and Ukraine the platform is currently being used in 10 countries, with a goal to expand to 20 countries by the end of 2021Learn More Watch Video
The Digital Nigeria program aligns with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) of Nigeria which has a vision to transform the country into a leading digital economy where digital innovation and entrepreneurship are used to create value and prosperity for all. As part of the program, The Federal Government of Nigeria partnered with the African Development Bank and Microsoft to launch the Digital Nigeria Portal to drive digital skilling and employment for the youth in Nigeria in September 2020.
The Digital Nigeria portal, enabled by Community Training, boasted of 25K+ registered learners in 42K+ courses with over 10K course completions in its first 48 hours of the launch.
